Everyone's doing it

I know every blogger out there has been posting this shoot... but for good reason. The styling is amazing!!! I love this outfit, in fact I love it so much it 'outfit shamed' me; I couldn't begin to post what I'm wearing today because it pales in comparison to this. I will have to step it up.

Tulips

I found this little tulip skirt at Urban this weekend when I was shopping with my pal Michelle. It's quite sweet for me but I liked the color and thought I could make it my own... of course I was running late for work today and totally forgot to accessorize it! The worse part is I didn't realize until I was in the car, too late to turn back. Now all day I've been thinking what this outfit could have been; a chunky necklace, lots of bangles, a bright clutch, oh well. I'll have to suffice with the shoes which are incredible.

The big 3-0

My little sister hit the big 3-0 this weekend. Lots of fun and frolics ensued and it was the perfect excuse to debut some of my partycentric thrift store finds. Behold; the studded jump suit and the lace and mesh body con dress!

For the big day we woke up late and spent the day shopping and eating. Met the folks for champagne by the lake, then a nice dinner at Radio Milano followed by more drinks (we're a family of lush's, what can I say). Saturday was party planning mahem, we shopped, cooked, decorated and then finally partied the night away (pics to come).
Happy Birthday Dannie!!!!

Meeting the big guy

My sister's boyfriend graduated yesterday with his MA in Industrial Design (congrats Greg)! He managed to get us all tickets to the big event, not that I was dying to see a bunch of ASU kids in bad polyester capes, but because the big guy, Obama himself was there. We coped with 102 degrees and 71,000 people, to hear him encourage and inspire. His speech really struck a chord with me. He talked about the outward markers of success that so many people fall victim too, which is something that has been on my mind a lot lately.

"Many of you have been taught to chase after the usual brass rings: being on this "who's who" list or that top 100 list; how much money you make and how big your corner office is; whether you have a fancy enough title or a nice enough car.
You can take that road - and it may work for some of you. But at this difficult time, let me suggest that such an approach won't get you where you want to go; that in fact, the elevation of appearance over substance, celebrity over character, short-term gain over lasting achievement is precisely what your generation needs to help end."

The problem with that way of life is "it distracts you from what is truly important, and may lead you to compromise your values, principles and commitments."

In other news, I'm off to a cocktail party tonight to meet the ladies on the board of the Costume Institute I volunteer for. I thought I should go a little classier than my usual 'cocktail' attire (think tight and short). The label has fallen out of the skirt and I can't remember who the designer is, but it's demure enough for the ladies and flirty enough for me :)

Monday Monday

I had a busy weekend; Met friends for a curry, went to dance class, planned girly night out with dance instructor, made full english breakfast, cleaned the house, made shepherds pie for a friend in need, went grocery shopping, bought new sheets, stocked up on tea bags, met girlfriend for night on the town, drank, laughed, watched roller derby, talked about our lives at 2 am in the car, slept, went to pilates, ran into someone I knew, ate leftover curry, watched movies with my sister and cried, made brownies, ate brownies with tea, talked to my mum and read magazines in bed.

We need the eggs

I love Annie Hall. The first time I watched it I was amazed at the honesty of the relationship that was portrayed, I laughed hysterically and I was in awe of Diane Keaton's style. To this day I dream of her outfits in that movie... So when I found these pants in H&M I was elated and immediately christened them my Annie Hall pants. I was going to go for the whole ensemble (vest, scarf and hat) but opted against it for fear of looking like a costume. I know most men would be horribly put off by their high-waisted bagginess, but, in the words of Annie, la-di-da.

"After that it got pretty late, and we both had to go, but it was great seeing Annie again. I... I realized what a terrific person she was, and... and how much fun it was just knowing her; and I... I, I thought of that old joke, y'know, the, this... this guy goes to a psychiatrist and says, "Doc, uh, my brother's crazy; he thinks he's a chicken." And, uh, the doctor says, "Well, why don't you turn him in?" The guy says, "I would, but I need the eggs." Well, I guess that's pretty much now how I feel about relationships; y'know, they're totally irrational, and crazy, and absurd, and... but, uh, I guess we keep goin' through it because, uh, most of us... need the eggs".

Some kind of blue

A little Cinqo frivolity yesterday; margaritas, shrimp tacos and my new blue shorts.
I've got a meeting tonight with the museum people and the benefactor for our Nouveau Division. I'm so excited to meet him and talk about all the wonderful things we're going to do. I'll let you know as soon as the website is up and running so you can find out all about us. I think this is going to be big ;)

I'm back...

I have returned from a glorious week at the beach... I spent my days walking along windy coastlines, taking pictures of oddities washed up on the shore, cooking flank steak with artichokes and halibut with fava beans, reading about a Welsh hash smuggler, doing pilates and laughing heartily with my folks. And I'm back home for all of a few hours before I have to jet off again... this time it's work. I have to head up into the mountains for a couple of days to shoot cover options for the magazine. So I will be absent from my blog for a little longer, but bare with me, I have some great things to show you when I get back. In the mean time, here's a shot of the lovely Alexa, I'm thinking this should be my new hair, whatdyareackon? Pic nabbed from Knight Cat.
