weekend report

Another productive weekend. I did another test shoot with Jesse, he's buggered off to Santa Fe for a few days so I won't see the results for a while.
Made my immense burgers for a dinner party I threw on Saturday night.

The beautiful Jenney and Sabrina brought their fella's over for my messy Aussie burgers (burgers topped with grilled pineapple, pickled beets, a fried egg and my siracha mayo, mmmmm) and French Pear Tart.

That's my house... and the beautiful Sabrina.

Had a 4 hour brunch with a gal pal on Sunday, just to stay out of the heat, it was 116 degrees, why on earth am I living here????
Then off to see my burlesque girls perform a show (I dance with them but am not ready for my debut quite yet) followed by more fun and frolics at an MJ tribute night.

Black and White

I'm wearing Black and White in honor of MJ... yeah, yeah, it's not his best track but I thought a zombie costume or diamond encrusted cod piece might be a bit too much for the office.

Rompers and play suits oh my!

It's been unbearably hot here. It's so difficult to dress when all you feel like wearing is your birthday suit. The closest I could get to that is a play suit, it's short and comfy and almost appropriate for work as I was on set all day.

Creative juices

I had the house to myself last night, I made some dinner and did some 'alterations' while half watching Dazed & Confused. I turned these thrifted jeans into cut-offs and distressed them a bit, and turned this old sports bra into a crop top. Together (and clearly after listening to too much Alice Cooper) I thought they made quite the outfit!

I must have used up all my creative juices last night because I stood in front of my wardrobe for 15 minutes this morning trying to figure out what to wear. Everything that appealed to me was completely inappropriate for work. On days like this I fall back on Old Faithful a.k.a jeans and a t-shirt with killer heels.

Museum

So I've waffled on about my involvement with the Arizona Costume Institute - Nouveau Division a lot. A couple of weeks ago we had a bit of a do at the museum. Dennita, (the awe inspiring curator and the reason I got involved with this support group), gave an incredible guided tour of the current exhibit. We drank some wine, made some new friends and (the point of the whole thing) got a lot of new people interested in the fashion department. I was tasked with the last minute decorations, which I ended up pilfering from the cafeteria, not an easy task in 4 inch heels.

Hectic

Life has been a bit hectic since I got back. I had another meeting at the museum about the big event we'll be throwing in September. I'll give you all details as soon as the tickets are for sale, it's going to be an incredible night!
My mates Jesse, Michele and myself did a shoot on Friday, a nice 5am-er to get the weekend started. That's me on set above, not bad for that early in the morning eh! I was dead pleased with the outfits I put together, hopefully I'll be able to show them to you tomorrow.
I managed to stay up late into the night with the help of some good conversation and kisses.
Saturday was spent recovering; mexican food, thrifting and cupcakes.
And yesterday we cooked dear old Dad a lovely meal, prawns in yellow tomato confit, mmmm. Lovely Sundays.
My cameras are still dead and I feel completely stranded without them. With a bit of luck they'll be fixed next week but that means a lot of old or bad photos until then :(

The return of the wayward traveller

I bid adieu to the rainy skies of the east coast yesterday and headed back to the desert. I had an amazing week galavanting around DC, Virginia and Philly;
Steve was my host. We went strawberry picking and visited a little vineyard out in the countryside... it reminded me of my childhood days spent in Wales with it's rolling green hills and windy roads.

Friday night was debauched and hilarious. We went to my mate Mike Z's night, Sorted, in Philly. I danced my arse off. I highly recommend it if you live in the vicinity. I've been having some bad camera karma recently, even my point and shoot has died a death, everything is out of focus so bear with me. This photo booth joviality was recorded at the end of the night - hence the wet hair and jaded eyes :)

There were days spent on the porch and evenings eating with friends. Next there was shopping, mussels and beer in downtown Philadelphia. A night out with Mike and a visit to his new house.
Back to DC for some culture and a day spent contemplating contemporary art at the Hirshhorn Museum and the National Portrait Gallery.
Crabcakes in Maryland and a mad dash to the airport rounded out the week.

Everybody is a star

I was listening to Sly and the Family Stone on the way into work today, I love that song (see headline) and it inspired me nicely for the day.
As of tomorrow I'll be galavanting around the east coast for a week... hello D.C., Philly and NYC! Posts may be few and far between, but stick with me because I'll have lots to show you.
Besides the sightseeing, catching up with mates, eating and drinking, I plan on unwinding and thinking about all those big topics, you know, love, happiness, forgiveness....

Bugger

I managed to bugger up my camera this weekend so, until I hassle one of the shooters at work to snap me, we'll have to make do without outfit posts. I thought I'd share a couple of shots from the 'Brights' shoot we did last week. The model was so new, she's got the most angelic face and amazing lips, and she really rocked it considering how little experience she has. I think it could have handled some more outrageousness but I'm happy with it :)

Keep on keeping on

I'm rushing off to another photo shoot. Tonight we're shooting bright cocktail dresses. I'm thinking neon lips, blonde, blonde hair, on-camera flash and some gritty images of girly dresses. Hopefully it will all come together how I envision it. I've got to be comfy for shoots, I'm on my feet for hours and always end up lugging gear around, hence the flats.

Black and Gold

I had what can only be described as a healing weekend, everything I did was good for my soul and body; A Japanese theme dinner party, sushi, sake, new friends and a good laugh. Dance class, a facial and a spiritual reading. Caught a movie, pilates and a day at the pool, cocktails and girlfriends. Almost finished my book, dinner with the family and a B12 shot. It doesn't much better than that.
