Rocknroll star

These jeans make me feel like a rock n roll star.
I'm going to spend the evening with friends, lying in the grass, listening to some bands play, then tomorrow I'm off to California for week of much needed r&r.

I love shoot days

I had a photo shoot at a fancy resort yesterday. I produce and art direct shoots for a weekly fashion publication and a monthly magazine. I love shoot days, running around with the photographer choosing locations, directing the stylist and hair and makeup.... and the all important end of shoot, celebratory cocktail!

Why I admire Jefferson Hack

"Our readers’ love of fashion shouldn’t exclude an interest in the world around them. We’re engaged in how fashion connects to art and design, and to literature and social issues. The smart, long-lasting media that I’m trying to create, I see it as an antidote to all those magazines that exist to celebrate the good times. That’s a superficial high". - Jefferson Hack to Style.com

He's smart, experimental, creative and diverse. He sees fashion for what and all it is. That final remark makes me believe he knows there is more to life, something deeper than the media he creates, than the fashion he wears and the parties he goes to.

Ikat

It's supposed to hit 100 degrees today... it's summer people. And so, the legs are out and I am drawn to all things ethnic... behold the ikat skorts (oh yes, skirt/shorts).

Ugly pants

You may have noticed my penchant for ugly pants lately... I was trepidatious at first, but with each pair I become more and more fearless. This pair may just take the biscuit! Floral, harem style and I love them!
On another note my meeting with the art museum went really well. I am now on the committee of the Arizona Costume Institute, Nouveau Division. Myself, and 4 other amazing women will be in charge of raising awareness of the fashion department at the museum among the younger demographic. We'll be throwing big events, meetings, lectures and the all important cocktail hours. I'll keep you all updated as things progress, but needless to say I'm really excited!

A quiet weekend

I had a lovely weekend. My dear friend Jenney got married at the Art Museum. The weather was perfect, the crowd was stylish and there was love in the air. I wore Zac Posen and felt girlishly giddy.
On Sunday night I had some friends over for a feast of food, conversation and mojitos. I made a French Pear Tart and not a crumb was left...

Tag

I've been tagged to answer these questions by Une Fille Un Style. I cheated a bit and took out a couple that my current brain function wouldn't allow me to answer today... but hopefully the remaining questions will suffice as a little insight into my soul.

What is your current obsession?

Finding an old camera that will help me capture some of the images I have in my head, I’ve been really inspired recently by photographers that shoot film, and I’ve never really been a digital convert.

What is your weirdest obsession?

Cleaning the fridge. I love to cook and it’s so off putting to see all the lovely ingredients in a dirty fridge… a tad OCD I know...

What are you wearing today?

Slouchy trousers, baggy t-shirt with lace corset over it and silver platforms.

Why is today special?

I’m going to a meeting at the Art Museum to discuss my involvement in a new division of their fashion department.

What would you like to learn to do?

There’s so much that I’d love to learn. It’s amazing how important learning is to me, as I get older… I blew off school when I was there and there’s so much I’ve forgotten over the years.

I’d like to re-learn French, the piano and ballet. I’d like to learn more about creative writing and photo retouching and I wish I could sew.

What’s for dinner today?

Whatever the girls and I fancy after our big meeting, but it will certainly include cocktails.

What are you listening to right now?

 General office hubbub.

What is your favorite weather?

 Warm, overcast days.

What is on your bedside table?

A lamp, my ipod dock, a photo of my sister and me, a little Buddha, books and magazines, a Polaroid camera.

What do you think about the person who tagged you?

Unefille-Unstyle tagged me. I’ve only just started reading her blog but she has tons of great inspiration and appears to love Alexa Chung as much as I do J

If you could have a house totally paid for, fully furnished anywhere in the world, where would you like it to be?

I’d love to go back to London.

Favorite vacation spot?

 Anywhere I haven’t been already.

What would you like to have in your hands right now?

 A hot cup of tea.

What would you like to get rid of?

 Small mindedness and intolerance.

If you could go anywhere in the world for the next hour, where would you go?

 It’s dinnertime in Paris….

What has been your best designer buy so far?

A Marc Jacobs romper that makes me feel like a million bucks.

Who do you want to meet in person?

 The love of my life.

One thing that you would snitch out of someone’s closet, with no regrets?

Any one of the Olsen’s vintage gowns (especially a Zandra Rhodes).

What’s the favorite piece of clothing in your own closet?

This week it’s the little ethnic print vintage dress I wore last Friday.

I tag: Magpie Mania, What is Reality Anyway?, Macaroni Club, Platinum Evil and Balmain Bazaar.

Baggy

I still haven't got the guts (or should I say, I still have the gut) to wear this crop top as it was intended. A couple more weeks of yoga and dance and I should be ready for it :)
The weekend was a huge success. My outfit for the 80's prom was boarderline cute ( I was going for hideous so this was something of a failure), the place looked amazing and we danced our arses off. My camera packed in so I've been pestering friends for shots so I can show you my outfit in all it's glory.
I Dj'd on Friday night, it was an earlier set so I could play all my old mod stuff and didn't have to worry about packing out the dance floor too much. Sunday was spent with family and friends enjoying the weather and too much food.
I'm starting a new volunteer project this week and have lots of plans with friends, it's nice to have a week off from shoots, I feel like I can stop and breathe.

Rough days

It's been a rough day/week/month... Luckily there have been some up's, but the down's have been really bad. In an effort to turn my mood around I'm wearing something short, colorful and vintage (my favorite). It's been working, for the most part, and the allure of a weekend full of all my favorite things is helping too.

Slacks

I was on location for another shoot today... this time it was my sister's painting studio. We shot painterly and abstract florals on the lovely Emma. It's been a really busy, stressful week so I didn't feel like getting too playful with my outfit.

Here's a couple of pics from the shoot...

Sense and sensible

I had back to back shoots yesterday... I was in the studio all morning styling a still life editorial, then I was out in the desert directing a model for a possible cover. It got insanely hot here already and I knew I'd be hiking around to find the perfect location for the shoot, so I decided to be as cool and comfy as possible. These sandals are treating me well but I know I'll get bored of them after a few more wears, anyone seen any amazing (and reasonable) alternatives out there?

Oh, I had to share this shot of Weird Cat, he loves getting in on the photo shoot action ;)

1985

My blazer collection is growing faster than Angelina's brood at the moment. I picked up 4 more while out thrifting for my 'prom' dress this weekend, including this one.

Meet the sis

My sister has been a huge rock for me this past month. Through all the ups and downs she's been there to listen and support me. She's been the voice of reason in my messed up head and she's dealt with all the real mess that I couldn't face. I love my sister to bits. We took pictures at the lake this weekend... I was channeling Stevie Nicks by the looks of things. It felt good to play with her like we did when we were kids.

Mad

I've been a bit pants mad this week. Here's that BCBG pair that I love. I thought I'd man them up a bit with this vintage knit vest.
It looks like it's going to be a good weekend... I'm finally having that yard sale I've been threatening for ages. There will also be happy hours, brunches and the all important girl time.
I have to go in search of the most hideous prom dress I can find, my friend is throwing an 80's prom for his birthday next week, we don't have them in the UK so I'm ready to embrace every cliche moment possible!
Hopefully I'll be able to sqeeze in a bit of creative time to play with a camera my mate Jesse has leant me. Speaking of camera's, here's a holga shot that I took a while back on my last trip to LA....

The harem bandwagon

After a rather successful trip to the Goodwill this week I can officially say I'm on the harem pant bandwagon. These beauties are part of a set, the top will get paired with some loose shorts, but today I'm working the trousers. Appropriate as we were doing a pants shoot at work... We ventured to a run down, mission style church and let the harsh rays of sun bake down on our model. The shadows were beautiful as she created shapes against the walls. I'll show you the outcome in a few days.
