I'm going to Graceland

I think I'm going to dub this my Graceland outfit... the jungle themed top and a healthy amount of leather totally reminded me of The King's pad ;)
I got this top on ebay, I actually thought I was buying a dress but when it arrived it barely covered my bum! So now I must wear it with leggings, today I chose my leather look pair from Express.

Endless shoots

I have photo shoots every day this week so you're going to be seeing me in flats a lot! I'm pretty hands on during the shoots; directing, helping the photographer set up, styling etc. It's such a struggle to get dressed for them, I need to be practical but I want to look cute and stylish too. There's nothing worse for your self esteem that looking like crap on a fashion shoot, while a drop dead gorgeous model is flitting around in full hair and makeup and the newest fashions! I'm not sure that I accomplished my goal today... but it is comfy... and a little red lippy made me feel girly ;)

The fringe obsession continues...

I've been buying anything and everything I see with fringe on it, I just can't seem to help myself. I found this skirt on the sale rack at Express and was overjoyed. It's had a few outings at night but this is it's first forray into daylight.

I just realised that I wore ruffles 2 days in a row... very unusual for me! Yesterday I wore my Zara military jacket, it's stunning and my Mum insisted on buying it for me when I tried it on in the shop (ta Mum ;). I toned down the ruffles by wearing it with my slouchy trousers, a tee and some statement accessories.

Today I wore this ruffle mini from ASOS. Again I had to give it a masculine edge (why am I so uncomfortable with looking too feminine???) so I wore it with my grey sweatshirt and booties.

Skater skirt

It's so difficult getting dressed for work after a long weekend... I just felt like slobbing around in my jeans and watching the inauguration... but I had to get into the office pronto as I have a bunch of photo shoots this week. I pulled out this full skirt that I got in Forever21 last summer, I think it works pretty well with tights for winter, and funked it up with an ethnic beaded belt and scarf.

Jeans of my dreams

I'va fancied a pair of tiedye/bleached up jeans for ages but I've been too scared to make them myself, after I ballsed up an attempt at shredding I had to ditch a pair of perfectly good Levis. Hande over at handescloset made a brilliant pair. So imagine my joy when I found these bad boys on the sale rack at Urban. They were only $9.99!!! They're by Corpus and I really dig their washed out color. It was so warm here this weekend that I wore them with a really summery outfit, I have a feeling they're going to get a lot of wear this Spring.

Making floral funky

Here's another one of my little floral dresses. I tried to 'un-girlie' it by wearing brown accessories (belt, shoes and bag) and throwing on my grandpa cardie. I'm pretty pleased with the outcome, it's actually quite funky! I'm going out tonight (my fella is doing an opening DJ set for Steve Aoki), I'll be dancing the night away in heels so i thought I'd give my feet a rest for the first part of the day and wear flats. Pictures of tonights outfit to come :)

PS. That's Weird Cat sneaking into the shot, he loves the attention!

P-p-p-pick up a poncho

I snagged this amazing little poncho at an old lady consignment store here in Phx a couple of years ago. The bow on the front reminded me of something I'd seen on the Chanel runway that season and I was ecstatic about my find. I don't wear it as often as I'd like as it's a bit impractical; large holes don't provide much warmth and the shape makes it difficult to carry a shoulder bag. But today I needed something special to give a twist to my outfit. Leather leggings and a plaid shirt felt too 'trendy' by themselves. I really like the added dimension and texture it brings to the outfit and luckily it's a balmy 70something degrees here today so I didn't have to worry about a chill.

Here's a look at my belt, another vintage find, this time from london.

I wear the trousers

I got these trousers for Christmas from my mum. I've worn them twice and have to say I love them! They have that 'drop crotch' look without actually having a low crotch (my legs aren't long enough to pull that look off). They're perfectly slouchy and, when paired with my loose blazer, have just the right amount of 80's to make me happy :) I have got to admit I've been wearing this blazer way too much... I think I'll have to challenge myself to not wear it for an entire week and see if I cope!

What's Old is New

I got this skirt forever ago, from the Cynthia Rowley store in LA. It's been in the back of my wardrobe wondering when it might see the light of day again. I rediscovered it this morning, hunting in the depths of my stuffed closet for inspiration... this little ray of white and black and ruffles. I've usually worn it in the summer but I was pleasantly surprised how good it looked with black tights. I also threw on an old grandpa cardigan to stop it looking too girly.

I thought it might need a bit of colour so I dug out this Miu Miu bag that I got in the sale a few years ago. I'm not usually a fan of pink but the ladylike clasp on this bag really won me over.

Here's the lovely ruffles on the back...

That Gucci dress

I loved the Gucci Fall 08 collection. It's so me, a little bit hippy, a lot boho and tons of black and paisley. I can't afford the real, but Bebe (I know, can you believe it?) had this really good knock-off. Worn with my vintage over the knee boots I can really capture the runway look. Now if only I could find a bargain version of the studded heels I'd be in heaven!

Those Alexander Wang jeans

Ever since I saw the Alexander Wang shredded jeans on the runway I have coveted them. I've spotted a few girls in a skinny black variation so I thought I'd give it a go and make my own. I couldn't figure out the shred so I went for a torn/cut look. They turned out OK, not quite as I'd hoped but they definately have a good punky vibe. They look best with all black, high heels and from a distance :)

How short is too short?

I love this little tunic I found at Forever21. It's just the right amount of boho, it has pockets and it's micro-mini. The only trouble is I can't lift my arms up without flashing the world my undies! Sometimes I remember this but now and again I forget... I feel a bit sorry for the people that are around when I forget ;) I wore this on Saturday, running around town with my boyfriend. We went to our friend's store Covet, they were having a sale and I picked up a great pair of high waisted flares and a black vest. I have to get the flares hemmed so hopefully I can show them to you soon.

Something unexpected

I found this gold tassle in a drawer at the office, it used to be attached to a flag but had found it's way into a musty hiding place where it, no doubt, would have remained forever.... until I discovered it and realised it's true potential!!! I saw it sitting there and I could envision the fabulously bohemian vibe it would lend to my outfits. So I welcomed it into my wardrobe and love it with this little floral dress. I have lots of little floral dresses, which is a bit strange for me as I'm not really a girly girl, but I really like to pair them with masculine jackets for an edgier look, or wear them with boho accessories for a more 70's feel.

Kingdom of Style

I love Queen Michelle's funky style over at Kingdom of Style. She has an obsession with legwear that is really impressive. I borrowed a bit of her look today, leather look leggings that she'd be proud of! They're from Express, has anyone else noticed how 'on trend' they've been lately?

The Darkness

I found this lace top at a thrift store a while back and hadn't quite figured out what to wear it with until this morning. I layered it so it was 'daytime' appropriate... I think I'll be more risky one night and wear it a la Erin Wasson.
